The first crucial step in planning your SNBP (National Selection Based on Merit) application to Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) is understanding that ITB accepts students by Faculty or School, rather than directly into specific study programs (majors). During the first year (the Common First Year / TPB phase), all students study foundational sciences before being allocated to their specific major in their second year.
Building a Strong Academic Portfolio and Supporting Credential Merit-based selection heavily relies on the consistency and quality of your high school academic track record. To maximize your admission chances at ITB, your plan must center on thorough data analysis of your grades and achievements.
Risk Management and Prioritizing Campus Choice: Applying to ITB via SNBP requires high rationality and a mature risk-management strategy. Given the intense competition for ITB in the SNBP track, setting your preference order must be done strategically.
Important Note: ITB almost exclusively admits applicants who place their faculty as Choice 1. Placing ITB as a second choice generally carries an exceptionally high risk of rejection.
Be sure to review your grade mapping with your school counselor (Guru BK) and parents. If your grades and school index support it, commit to putting ITB as your first choice. However, if the risk is too high, prepare a solid contingency plan (Plan B) aimed at the SNBT (exam-based route) or ITB’s Independent Selection (Seleksi Mandiri).
